2. No conflicts of interest were declared.

Item 1: Welcome and apologies

3. Apologies were received from Dr Claude Lambré and Prof Shirley Price.

Item 2: Extension of use of curcumin (E 100) to a new food category “egg analogues” (RP41) Update Cover paper (Reserved) AEJEG/2024/15

4. The AEJEG reviewed the response to their latest request for further information (RFI) provided by Eat Just, Inc, in connection with their application for authorisation of the extension of use of curcumin (E 100)   to the proposed new food category ‘egg analogues’ under category 12.9 ‘protein products, excluding products covered in category 1.8’. This would be further separated into ‘Liquid egg analogues’ and ‘Solid egg analogues.’

5. This Application had last been reviewed by the AEJEG in their February 2024 meeting. In which Members requested further clarification on the exposure assessment and considered a clarification on the presence of nanoparticles could be included, depending on previous correspondence.

6. The AEJEG concluded sufficient information had been provided for the AEJEG to conclude, and agreed a Committee Advice Document would be drafted by the AEJEG. It was agreed the AEJEG would provide its own exposure calculations using the most recent version of FAIM, this would be included in the CAD document in addition to the exposure calculations submitted by the Applicant..

Item 3: Extension of use of curcumin (E 100)  to a new food category “egg analogues” (RP41) – Group Paper for Discussion Cover Paper

7. According to the Agenda the updated cover paper for RP41 was also due to be presented for discussion, however Members instead considered that all areas had been covered during the detailed discussion on the update paper. It was agreed instead that the application in its entirety would be reviewed as a Committee Advice Document in a future meeting, therefore, no further discussion on RP41 took place.

Item 4: Update paper on Application for Authorisation of Blue Microalgae Extract (Blue Galdieria Extract) for Use as a New Food Additive in the ‘Colour’ Functional Class (RP507) AEJEG/2024/17

8. The AEJEG was presented with and asked to evaluate the two most recent requests for information (RFI) responses for RP507. This Application is for the authorisation of blue microalgae or blue Galdieria extract for use as a new food additive. The AEJEG initially reviewed the Application in February 2022. The AEJEG further reviewed the Application in the July 2022, October 2022, April 2023, July 2023, September 2023, February 2024, and April 2024 meetings. A toxicology subgroup of the AEJEG also met in January 2024 for a focused discussion of the toxicology data. A sixth RFI had been sent to the Applicant on the 5th of April 2024 and a response was received on the 25th of June 2024. A seventh RFI had been sent to the Applicant on the 27th of June 2024 and a response was received on the 17th of July 2024. These responses were presented to the AEJEG.

9. The AEJEG reviewed the RFI responses and agreed that an external statistical expert should be consulted to determine if the correct statistical tests were used to analyse the 90-day sub-chronic toxicity study and whether the outcomes were accurate. The Secretariat agreed that the statistical expert's conclusions would be shared to the AEJEG via correspondence.

Item 5: CAD paper on Application for Authorisation of Blue Microalgae Extract (Blue Galdieria Extract) for Use as a New Food Additive in the ‘Colour’ Functional Class (RP507) AEJEG/2024/18

11. The AEJEG completed a review the second draft Committee Advice Document for RP507. They provided minor editorial adjustments and requested that an external statistical expert review the 90-day sub-chronic toxicity study data and that the statistical expert’s conclusions should be shared with the AEJEG via correspondence.

Item 6: Minutes of the last meeting - AEJEG/2024/14

12. Members agreed that the minutes were an accurate reflection of the meeting of the 11th of September, subject to minor editorial changes.
